Your Company Hasn't Adopted AI Until You Pick a Business Plan

An individual subscription is not an organizational solution. Picking a business plan is the first step, it costs almost nothing, and most companies still haven't taken it.

Most people get introduced to AI through personal ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini accounts, but an individual subscription is not an organizational solution.

A business plan is a low-risk, low-upfront-cost choice. The first jump in productivity happens when an individual realizes how to solve a problem with AI. The exponential jump happens when your team leverages each other’s work. Don’t overthink it. Pick one and start winning.

Pick your platform

Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT) are the two heavyweights in this space. Dealer’s choice. Just pick one.

Six months ago I would have pushed you hard toward Claude. It is what most of our clients run on, and I am still a huge fan. But ChatGPT has caught up on features, and either platform is a fantastic choice.

Pick a business plan

You need to commit to an actual team tier. Anthropic calls this the Team plan. OpenAI calls it the Business plan.

Provider Business tier Seat price Minimum seats What you get
OpenAI ChatGPT Business $20/mo billed annually, or $25/mo monthly 2 Single sign-on, workspace controls, agent mode, data privacy
Anthropic Claude Team $20/mo billed annually, or $25/mo monthly 2 Single sign-on, shared projects, admin controls, data privacy

A business plan unlocks immediate operational wins:

  • Easier onboarding and sharing of tools
  • Centralized admin and single sign-on
  • Shared workspaces and tools (this is the biggest one)
  • Operational and security controls
  • Consolidated billing
  • A data guarantee: your company data isn’t used to train public models

So many pain points vanish the moment you centralize. Having AI trapped on individual laptops with disconnected context is a recipe for frustration. Moving to a business plan with shared resourcing makes onboarding easier, tool sharing seamless, and prompt alignment effortless.

What about vendor lock-in?

This is the modern version of the old Mac versus PC debate. Both were computers, and both got the job done.

Claude and ChatGPT are similar in terms of outcomes. For 95% of businesses, the differentiating features aren’t moving the needle. Unless you are a special snowflake (you most likely are not), pick one and start building.

There has also never been an easier time to migrate platforms. If you ever decide to switch, the AI itself can reformat, translate, and port your prompts and workflows to the new provider. Lock-in is a non-issue relative to delay.

What about open source or self-hosted?

If you have the expertise to run one of these, you probably shouldn’t be reading this article, and you are able to underwrite the time and cost of keeping it running.

For everyone else, you need reliable systems to keep the business up. Go with a mainstream provider. Skip the bleeding-edge hype and choose the safe, managed option.

Your company has not adopted AI until you pick a business plan. Pick one this week.
